SAP MM Certification --
This
page is intended to serve as a starting point for everyone who wants to
pass SAP MM Certification or for those who are just curious about SAP
MM (Materials Management) and SAP certification. SAP ERP (Enterprise
Resource Planning) system consists of a number of modules. Each of the
modules covers certain business area of a company that uses SAP. There
are modules for Finance Accounting, Controlling, Production Planning,
Sales & Distribution, Business Intelligence, Human Resources, etc.
SAP MM is one of those modules and it was designed to facilitate the
following business processes in an enterprise:
|
|
SAP
Education has developed several certification exams for evaluation of
knowledge and skills of SAP consultants in SAP MM implementation and
customization. The name of the certification varies depending on the
expertise level, for example, SAP MM Certification for the first level
is called SAP Certified Application Associate – Procurement with SAP ERP
6.0 EHP4 or SAP Certified Application Associate – Procurement with SAP
ERP 6.0 EHP5. There are differences in the software versions (EHP4 or
EHP5), but these differences are not related to SAP MM module. Currently
SAP offers certification at associate, professional, and master
levels.
SAP Certification Prerequisites --
Many
people are curious if SAP certification exams are based on a mandatory
set of prerequisites, such as participation in a series of training
courses or job experience. This post will provide actual information
about the SAP certification prerequisites. Surprisingly enough the
prerequisites for the certification depend on the geographical location
of SAP academy. For example, in the United States there is no course or
set of courses required in order to take a particular certification
exam. Nevertheless, SAP has a listing of recommended courses to help you
prepare. In addition, you do not have to have completed a lower level
(associate) exam in order to take a higher level (professional) exam;
however, many professional-level certification seekers may find it
valuable.
The
situation is different in Asia Pacific Japan region. All candidates
registering for SAP Certification Test must ensure that they have at
least 2 years SAP implementation experience or have attended at least 15
days of relevant training in SAP. Proof of the above must be presented
upon registration. If you are going to register for SAP Certification
Test, it is advised to check with local SAP institution, which
administers the test, what are the requirements and SAP
certification prerequisites in your country. You should normally be
able to find contact details on the official website of SAP in the
section of Training and Education. Try to be patient with SAP website,
because due to the fact that it has a lot of fancy images, it sometimes
takes quite some time before it completely loads. Good luck with the certification.
SAP MM Certification Syllabus --
During
the preparation for SAP MM Certification it is important to distribute
your time between different SAP MM competency areas according to their
importance in SAP MM Certification. Therefore, you should study
according to the SAP MM Certification Syllabus. For you convenience I
have prepared SAP MM Certification Syllabus adapted from www.sap.com,
which illustrates the the competency areas covered in this test. The
percentage indicates the portion of the test dedicated to a particular
competency area.
Weighting per Topic: + = <8% ++ = 8-12% +++ = >12%
Usually it is a good idea to print SAP MM Certification Syllabus or bookmark it your browser. Then you will always be able to quickly refer to it while studying for SAP Certification.

Value of SAP Certification --
Value of SAP Certification -Many people ask the questions if SAP Certification adds any value to your professional profile and makes your CV more attractive from an employer’s point of view. Therefore, we decided to write this post and discuss different perspectives on value of SAP Certification.
Value of SAP Certification at LinkedIn- Let us start with LinkedIn, because it is the most popular job
search network in the world. One might include information about
certification “SAP-(SD, MM, FI, etc) Certified Associate” or “SAP-(SD,
MM, FI, etc) Certified Professional” as a headline on his or her
LinkedIn profile. It is reasonable to assume that this headline
definitely implies some value. For instance, employers do not know you,
but when they see this, they know that the consultant has invested some
time and effort into getting knowledgeable about SAP and showing the
world that he or her wants people to know it. Therefore, we conclude
that it gives the consultant some additional credibility, but of course
the certification alone will not get you a job or a contract, because
there is a plenty of other things in your CV that attracts employers’
attention.
Value of SAP Certification in The Real World- There
is a lot of talks on that SAP certifications do not mean anything
because almost everyone claims that they are certified. However, the
same can be said with a Bachelor’s degree. As long as you can back up
with what you learned or got certified in, with words to your future
employer, then that will pay off. Plus, they give you an SAP
certification award letter, which you can show to an employer during an
interview. Just like when you graduate from college, you can get a
diploma or transcript. Being certified in any field of technology is
VERY beneficial and particular in SAP area. Just saying that you can
build computer, design a SAP project, or protect a network means nothing
to an employer, unless you have been tested on it and others are
backing up with what you said. I am working on my SAP project and that
will open many doors for me. Just reading the book about SAP is not
enough, as I have no way of proving that I was tested on the material.
SAP Training --
Presently more and more people want to get a job of SAP consultant and, therefore, the demand
for SAP training is constantly increasing. High demand for SAP
training lead to the situation where more and more training institutes
offer various SAP classes. SAP training market is extremely diverse and
for this reason newcomers are often confused and do not know which
course better suits their needs. Unfortunately, it is impossible
to provide a review of all SAP training providers that currently operate
on the market, because by the time we finish this review some training
companies will disappear and new companies will take their places. So,
we decided to write an article, which focuses not on particular training
providers, but on the types of SAP training. In particular we want to
discuss here the advantages and disadvantages of online SAP training and
classroom SAP training.
SAP Classroom Training -
SAP Classroom training is a traditional way to learn SAP. Depending on the training provider, you will be enrolled in a group with 10-12 students. In most cases training classes start in the morning and finish in the evening (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) with one hour break for lunch. The training course normally focuses on one of the SAP modules: SAP SD, SAP MM, SAP FI, SAP BI, SAP HR and others. Moreover, some courses teach two adjacent modules (e.g., MM and SD) at the same time. You will be given a handbook with theory and exercises. The handbook is usually included in the price of SAP course. There will be also computers in the classroom with an access for training SAP IDES installation. You should be able to access SAP via these computers anytime when you are in the classroom, but probably not from home. Due to the fact that there are several students in the group, an instructor will go through the materials with an average speed. So if you need more time than other students to understand something, you will not be given time for it. On the other hand if you are have good knowledge of SAP, then the speed might seem too slow for you.
SAP Online Training -
SAP online training emerged recently and many people are still a bit suspicious to this kind of remote education. However, SAP online training has several big advantages over the traditional classroom based training. That is why more and more people to learn SAP online. The first and the main advantage is of course the price. SAP training is quite expensive for a number of reasons and many recent graduates just cannot afford it. Therefore, the low price of SAP online training is a major factor. Another good thing about online courses is that you go through them alone at your own pace. At the pace which is comfortable for you and allows you to understand the course better. In 90% of cases you will also be given with a 24/7 access to SAP system for practice. However, when you choose the training course, you should always ask if the course provider gives you an access to a training SAP system. In some cases training providers try to be silent about it until you pay for the course. With online training you unfortunately loose the contact with a live instructor. You have to understand everything yourself. And if you have any questions there is no one to quickly answer them.
SAP Training: Online or Classroom? What to choose?
Of course each situation is different and you should decide yourself which type of SAP training better suits your needs. Here we tried to briefly describe what to expect from these two types of SAP training. It can be clearly seen that each training type has its own advantages and disadvantages. That is classroom based SAP training is a better fit for people who very much like a guidance of a live instructor during the course. On the other hand, online SAP training might be good for those who like to learn on their own pace. Another important factor is the price of the training. Classroom based SAP training is traditionally way more expensive than online SAP training.
How to Register for SAP Certification? Step-by-Step Guide --
In
this article we will explain how to register for SAP Certification
exam. We will go step by step through the registration process and
illustrate each step with a screenshot. The registration process does
not seem to be difficult, but still a lot of people ask how to register
for SAP certification test. That was our main motivation to write this
article.
Welcome
to the SAP world! You decided to become a certified SAP consultant and
it is a good way to start your career in SAP area. In this guide we
assume that you have already taken appropriate SAP training course,
practiced with SAP certification sample questions,
fulfilled certification prerequisites, and are ready to try yourself
with the certification. Our guide will be focused on registration for
SAP Certification in United States through SAP website (online). So far
it is the most convenient way that is offered by SAP. Registration in
other countries is almost identical with one big exception: there are
countries where online registration is not yet implemented. If you want
to get certified in one of these countries you should contact SAP
Education by phone. We will talk more about registration by phone in the
section Offline Registration for SAP Certification (see below). If you
do not know whether it is possible to register for SAP Certification
online in your country, follow the guide for online registration and you
will very soon find it out.
Online Registration for SAP Certification --
Step 1: Open you favorite web browser and type in the address bar http://www.sap.com.
Be patient, their website is slow. Which is strange taking into account
that their ERP system is pretty fast:). If you have never visited this
website before, you will be welcomed with a page where you can select
your country and language (the background picture could be different, it
seem that they are picked randomly):
Here you should choose the desired location and language. When you are done, click Continue. If you have already visited this website before, you can probably skip this step because you set your location and language earlier.
Step 2: On the next webpage you should click on Training & Education link:
You will be taken to the webpage which is dedicated to SAP educational business. It should look like this:
Here you should click the tab Certification (see the picture above) and then click on the link Find Certifications by Solution:
Step 3: Now you need to choose for which SAP solution you would like to certify. In most cases people register for solution SAP Enterprise Resource Planning – ERP, because currently it is the primary SAP product and it creates the largest number of jobs.
As soon as you clicks on the solution of your choice, you will be taken to SAP Training and Certification Shop (see image below), here it is necessary to select Certifications tab:
Then in the list with various certification, you should locate the desired one.
Step 4:
Let us assume that in this tutorial we want to register for SAP SD
Certification, which is going to take place on 27th of July 2012 in
Chicago.
Click the button Add to plan and then scroll to the top of the page and locate Plan & Buy button there:
Click on this button and you will be redirected to checkout page:
Step 5: On the checkout page you should simply click Book button. Then SAP will offer you two opportunities: either create an account on their website or proceed as a guest.
In this guide we will proceed as a guest, but if you wish, you are welcome to create an account for SAP website. It certainly will not harm. On the next page you will be asked to enter your S-user number or offered with an opportunity to create it if you do not have one yet.
On the next page you will be asked to provide payment details. You can pay for SAP certification with credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express). It is possible that the available payment methods vary depending on a country. So you might also be able to pay with one of your local payment methods.
As soon as you fill in your payment data, click on Continue button and you will have one more chance to review your order. If you agree with everything, you should confirm the order and complete the registration. You will shortly receive an e-mail with confirmation of your registration. It is a good idea to print this confirmation out and take it with you for the certification. Congratulations, you are done! And good luck with your certification, we are sure you are going to ace it.
Offline Registration for SAP Certification
As we mentioned earlier, online registration for SAP Certification is not yet implemented everywhere in the world. How to check if you can register online in your country? Very easy, it can be seen from this page:
You see that instead of the nearest dates and locations the webpage says No schedule available in your country. What then you should do? Unfortunately, it is necessary to contact SAP Education directly by giving them a phone call. You can find their phone number in the top right corner of the page. For example, in India their number is +91 080 4082 90 00. So just give them a call and an operator will guide you through the process of registration for SAP Certification.
